Post-Op YouTube Video Leads to a Windfall for 7-Year-Old

This week the San Francisco Chronicle reported on 7-year-old David DeVore, who became an instant YouTube sensation -- and reaped a financial windfall -- after his parents posted this Flip video of the boy in the backseat of his father’s car on his way home from dental surgery:

Still in a haze, the boy asks: “Is this real life?”

What was meant to be a digital memory to share among family and friends has turned into a financial windfall. According to the Chronicle, the family has earned close to $150,000 as a result of the video since Jan. 30, when David Sr. uploaded "David After Dentist" to YouTube.com. At first, the Devores sold T-shirts featuring cartoon drawings of the boy, which led to his appearance in a Super Bowl ad. Recently, the family signed a deal to make medical scrubs for dentists, the report said.

The family isn’t just raking it in, it’s also donating some of the windfall. The DeVores have donated almost $7,000 to their church, David's school, a local dentist, and Operation Smile, a charity that provides free surgeries to children around the world with facial deformities such as cleft lip, the report said.

Doctors, what’s the funniest thing you’ve heard or experienced with a patient after surgery? Share your stories below!
