Published: Thursday, January 3rd 2013

With too many patients and an ever-increasing administrative workload, many physicians are burnt out and ready to leave health care. There may be a less stressful job that doesn’t mean abandoning the medical industry, though.

CareerCast.com released its list of least stressful careers for 2013 and four jobs in the medical industry snuck in amongst hairdresser and jeweler. The site picked what it considered low-stress careers based on high-growth opportunities, low health risks and substantial pay.

Considering that the health care industry is going to see an influx of more than 30 million patients, it should be the highest growth sector in the next decade, according to CareerCast. Some of the other jobs on the list may show very little or even negative job growth outlook, but a low stress score.

Very useful and informative. I am a physician who loves the craft of practicing medicine and taking care of people. However, the ever increasing and over-bearing stress sometimes takes its toll. I am forever blessed to love what I do and I am a very spiritual person who is motivated and positive in all walk of life. Therefore, I know this will past but it is always get to read about other ootions. Thank you.

As someone who has been in academia for 10 yrs & since left, I can safely say the stress level of university professors can really go up when dealing with University Administration big wigs, Deans, Dept Directors, Senior Profs & even students who are two-faced, bad, mean spirited, dog -eat-dog cut-throats. You will be surprised to find-out how many of your department colleagues will turn their backs on you come tenure & promotion time! Many a good professor have left academia because of its mean culture!
