Romney Crushed Obama in Debate

Published: Thursday, October 4th 2012

Wednesday night was the first presidential debate between President Barack Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney and there was a clear winner. A CNN poll revealed that 67% of viewers say Romney won and only 25% say Obama won.

The Guardian broke down the answers from both candidates and revealed that Obama referred to his accomplishments 10 times while Romney only referenced his record as governor four times. Both candidates directly attacked one another 11 times (not counting closing remarks). And both were sparse on details, offering few concrete plans for the future and few promises.

Just a day before the debate, Gallup released poll results that Americans expected Obama would do better in the debates, with 57% picking him and only 33% picking Romney. However, the president wasn’t up to the task last night and Romney gained a second wind for his campaign.

Even hardcore liberals had nothing good to say about the president’s performance on Wednesday, with Michael Moore blasting Obama on Twitter, James Carville saying it looked like Obama didn’t want to be at the debates, and Chris Matthews all but melting down on MSNBC.

Business Insider has been following Intrade’s trading on Obama being re-elected. Intrade is a prediction market where investors can make predictions on real-world events. After the debate last night, Obama got clobbered. The president began the debate with his chance of being re-elected, according to Intrade’s market, around 70%. The morning after the debate, his chances were down to 65%.

Although Obama still has a considerable lead on Intrade, Romney made a huge jump last night, proving that this election isn’t locked up.

The real loser of last night’s debate though was possibly moderator Jim Lehrer who lost control of the debate, allowing the candidates to speak well over the allotted answer time. Romney was able to take advantage of that and have the last word on almost every topic throughout the 90-minute debate.

The importance of debates is contested. Gallup’s Tuesday poll also revealed that 83% of voters did not think there was anything either candidate could say to change their minds at this point.

Just because someone is a fast talker does not make him a good presidential candidate. I notice that Romney was short on details and less on answers. Romney was a saleman and sold the bull to the public.

I thought President Obama was the winner with his quiet strength and details answers. He is a man who is going to stick to his words.

If he is a man that sticks to his words, why hasn't he fixed anything he said he would fix 4 years ago? All he has done is add to the debt and put more people out of work and on the government dole.
Romney conveyed poise and strength. Obama looked tired, and wouldn't even come to his own defense.
We need strength for dealing with foreign countries, and Romney looked and acted presidential. We need someone that will stand up for us and not knuckle under.

I have never seen headlines like this from a Presidential debate.
So for the first round, like a fight, Romney got his punches in hard and Obama couldn't lay a glove on him.
Now for round 2.

I think we saw the difference between someone with a background as a chief executive versus a community organizer. Governor Romney's strength showed during the debate by virtue of his well organized message and grasp of economics. President Obama did not show these traits though he is better on the campaign trail. In that setting he has honed an ability to "rally the troops."

Obama's low energy level was the surprise of the night. This demeanor was calculated, I'm sure, to come across as presidential - but it backfired - he seemed lethargic.

Romney might have come across as a leader but in his campaign he has repeatly waffled from one position to another. He is not to be trusted. His plans for health care would be disastrous. His trip to England shows his lack of experience in dealing with foreign policy. That is why Obama leads in the polls, people have more trust in him and opposed to Romney

For the past 60 YEARS, the national deficit skyrockets whenever a Republican is president. Under Reagan, it went UP 11%. Under HW Bush, it went up 13%. And under George W Bush, it went up a whopping 21%. Under Jimmy Carter, the national defecit DECREASED by 3%. Under Clinton, it DECREASED by 9%. GW Bush was the dumbest president this country ever had in our life time --- and Romney wants to do exactly what Bush did. What does that tell you? Republicans are just "Palin" STUPID. Romney is an alternative for republicans who thought Sara Palin was too intellectual. Republicans nominate people who are dumber than a sack of rocks. And those who vote for them are dumber than the rocks in the sack.

THE REPUBLICANS ARE CONSISTENT: 80% of Republicans voted AGAINST the Social Security Act of 1935; 90% of republicans voted AGAINST the Medicare act of 1965. IF ROMNEY SUPPORTERS WERE HONEST AND PRINCIPLED THEY WOULD REIMBURSE THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FOR ALL THE MONIES AND BENEFITS THEY'VE RECEIVED THROUGH THESE PROGRAMS----UNTIL THEN, I WON'T believe any GARBAGE they say!!!!!!!

Romney: "Substantively Fake, Disingenuous"!
Not surprising,"The Lies Smoothly Spewed From His Mouth"!
Mitt switched position on practical everything he tried to stand for; Saying whatever he thinks will equate to votes.
Mitt, showed LOVE to MASSACHUSETTS, but "MASSACHUSETTS DESPISES HIM" - 58%
Mitt was horrible Governor! Will be an even worst POTUS! President! ps: K VL Apparently forgot the nearly 10 trillion in deficits left by Bush! The unprecedented Conspiratory Congress, and the near Total Collapse of the US financial system as we knew it! Romney is not the answer! He is just a CHAMELEON and POLITICAL PARASITE!!!!

If Romney has such a great plan to balance the budget why wont' he tell us what it is in detail so we can judge it on its merits. A few months ago 47% of us were leaches and now he loves 100% of us. Give me a break Mr. Flip Flopper.

In an interview shortly after he was elected, Obama said that if he "couldn't fix the economy in 3 years, that he didn't deserve to be re-elected and he would be a one-termer." I say we follow his words. And if he didn't do his research well enough to know what awaited him, he shouldn't have been running in the first place. He also doesn't understand basic economics, he doesn't understand that if you put people back to work, the pie gets BIGGER not smaller. Those people can then pay taxes (instead of living off the government) they can buy things and spend the money they are now making. This all helps to grow the economy. As for the 47%, Romney said nothing wrong. Many people are dependent on the government that don't have to be. I am not talking abt seniors on Medicare or someone that is disabled and genuinely can't work. I am talking abt those who CAN work, and choose not to. And don't say there are no jobs out there...I see multiple "now hiring" signs daily. I don't work my butt off every day so that they can wear pajamas and slippers in public while they wait in line for their new IPhone.
