Top 10 Cars Most Likely to Get a Ticket

Is the car you drive a ticket magnet?

Researchers at Quality Planning, a unit of Verisk Analytics Inc., in Jersey City, N.J., that validates policyholder information for auto insurers, recently released its updated list of cars that are most likely to get a traffic ticket. The study looked at various vehicle types and the likelihood of each to be ticketed by law enforcement based on the number of moving violations per 100,000 miles driven.

Drivers of the Mercedes-Benz SL-class convertibles topped the list, with four times the number of tickets compared with the average, according to Quality Planning. Violators tend to be people (more likely men) in their peak earnings years. On the other end of the spectrum is the car Toyota designed expressly for the “Y” Generation, the Scion. The model shows up twice in the Top 10. The ‘90s icon, the Hummer, the Pontiac Grand Prix and the Volkswagen GTI also made the list. Overall, SUVs and hatchbacks received fewer tickets on average than standard two-door and four-door vehicles.

So who are the biggest offenders? Here are the Top 10 cars that are most likely to get a ticket:

There is no surprise here . Three out of this list of top 10 belong to Mercedes-Benz. Why? Simply because cops would rather issue tickets to people who (they figure) cannot afford to waste time trying to fight a ticket even if they are right. And that means more money in the coffers, to become available to who else- the police !! You have money, they want it !! It has nothing to do with speed or any other violation. You can drive a real jalopy at 80 miles an hour in a 55 miles zone and nary a cop will bother to come after you. You go 55 miles an hour in the left lane when there is not too much traffic to keep the traffic distributed evenly in a nice car, cop will give you a ticket for BEING in the left lane ! And you are guilty because the COP says so ! It is not the car, it is the symbol of money which is enough to make the envy raise its ugly head.

duh
Yes that rich folks thinking does explain the Camry, Scion and VW really well!!
LOL - The MB models listed then to be driven by the heavy footed, particularly the AMG ones. The Camry is the real question here, maybe because there are so many?

The left lane is for passing, not for "distributing traffic." You deserve a ticket if you do that. You need to clear out of that lane so I can zoom by and get my speeding ticket!

there's not a beamer on the list...then why do I get so many freakin' tickets? This study is flawed. The scion and camry are there since there cheap and every other car on the road is one of these, the integra hasn't been made in years, so I guess these are classic japanese car aficionados with heavy right feet, the people driving the grand prix are just trying to get there car back in the garage quickly so none of their friends sees them driving it!
